Add, Edit, Remove, or Delete Symbols
Symbols are programming objects in the control processor that communicate all in‑room information to Crestron Fusion. A Crestron Fusion® software program symbol must exist in a control processor program in order for that processor to work with Crestron Fusion. The programming objects are described in detail in the SIMPL help file. Program symbols have an address on a control processor known as the IP ID, and a version. The symbol version enables backward compatibility with previous versions of Crestron Fusion. New versions of symbols have enhancements to support new features in the corresponding version of Crestron Fusion.

Add a Symbol to a Processor
There are two ways to add a Symbol to a processor: via the Objects tab and via the Rooms tab. Perform steps 1 through 3 for the preferred method and then continue to step 4 which applies to both.
- Select the Objects tab at the bottom of the tree view pane.
- Select the Processors folder.
- Select a processor by clicking its checkbox and then selecting Edit in the toolbar. You can also edit an object by selecting it from the list.
Or:
- Select the Rooms tab at the bottom of the tree view pane.
- Under the Un-associated Objects folder, select the Processors folder.
- Select a processor by selecting its check box and then selecting Edit in the toolbar. You can also edit an object by selecting it from the list.
Then:
- When the Edit Processor dialog box opens, select the Symbols tab and then select Add in the toolbar.
- Enter a name in the Symbol Name field.
- Select a version number from the Symbol Version drop‑down meny. The available version numbers are 6, 7, and 8. Symbol version 6 is compatible with RoomView® Express, 7 is compatible with RoomView Server Edition 7.1 and 7.2, and 8 is compatible with Crestron Fusion.
- Select an IPID from the drop‑down menu.
- If your organization is using SSL security, and your processor is SSL enabled, select the SSL check box.
- If you are satisfied, select Save & Close.
Associate a Symbol with a Room
To associate a symbol with a room, an existing room must be edited. There are two ways to access a room for editing: via the Objects tab and via the Rooms tab. Perform steps 1 through 3 for the preferred method and then continue to step 4 which applies to both.
- Select the Objects tab at the bottom of the tree view pane.
- Select the Rooms folder.
- Select a room by clicking its checkbox and then select Edit in the toolbar. You can also edit an object by selecting it from the list.
Or:
- Select the Rooms tab at the bottom of the tree view pane.
- Locate your room in the tree and select its check box.
- Select Edit in the tool bar. You can also edit an object by selecting it from the list.
Then:
- Select the Symbols tab and select Add in the toolbar. The Add Symbol to Room dialog box opens.
- Select the check box of the desired symbol in the list. If no symbols are listed, then all symbols are already associated with rooms. You can select multiple symbols to associate as well.
- Select Add at the bottom of the dialog box if you are satisfied with your selection.
Edit a Symbol – Add or Remove Attributes
- Access the Edit Symbol dialog box via the Edit Room dialog box or the Edit Processor dialog box as described above.
- Make any desired changes on the Symbol Details tab.
- If you wish to make changes to attributes, select the Attributes tab. Here you can add or remove attributes as well as override default values.
- To add attributes, select Add in the tool bar. A tree view will open listing all attributes. If an attribute is grayed out, it is already associated with your symbol.
- Select the attribute(s) you wish to add and then select Save & Close.
- To remove attributes, select the check box for the desired attribute(s) and select Remove in the toolbar. This will open a Remove dialog box.
- Confirm the process by selecting Remove.
- Select Close when finished.
Edit a Symbol – Override Attribute Values
- Access the Edit Symbol dialog box via the Edit Room dialog box or the Edit Processor dialog box as described above.
- Select the Attributes tab. Here you can add or remove attributes as well as override default values.
- Select the attribute to be overridden and then select Override in the toolbar.
- Enter the override values you wish to apply and then select the checkbox for the appropriate field(s).
- If you are satisfied, select Save & Close.
- Select Close when finished.
Remove a Symbol from a Room
- Select a room as described above and then select Edit in the toolbar. You can also edit an object by selecting it from the list.
- From the Symbols tab, select the check box for the desired symbol(s) and then select Remove in the toolbar. This will open a Remove dialog box.
- Confirm the process by selecting Remove.
- Select Close when finished.
Delete a Symbol
Symbols can be deleted by accessing them in the Symbols folder of the Objects tab. They can also be deleted by editing the processor with which the symbol is associated.
To delete a symbol:
- Access the symbol by one of the methods described above.
- Select the checkbox(es) for the desired symbol(s) and then select Delete in the toolbar. This will open a Delete dialog box.
- Confirm the process by selecting Delete.
