Use this function to manage static and dynamic DNS server addresses.
When multiple DNS servers are configured the priority differs depending on the device. Some devices will give preference to the static address(es), and only use the dynamic address(es) if no static servers are configured. Other devices will use the dynamic servers in addition to the static servers.
On some devices, even in DHCP mode and with dynamic DNS servers available, if static DNS servers are configured the static servers will take priority and the DNS servers obtained via DHCP are therefore not known and not shown.
Static DNS Servers: These fields show the static IP addresses of the primary and secondary DNS servers. If no static servers are configured the fields will show all zeros.
To add or edit static DNS servers, enter the IP addresses of the primary and/or secondary DNS servers in the address fields.
To delete the primary and secondary DNS server addresses click Clear.
Dynamic DNS Servers: This read-only area shows the list of dynamic DNS servers if available.
Effective DNS Servers: This area shows the list of DNS servers actively being used for DNS lookup.
Click Apply to apply changes and refresh the lists.
To test the domain name resolution, select the DNS server and click Test. Then enter the Web address to test. For example, given www.crestron.com, the DNS server should resolve this to an IP address.
The test will result in the following message: "www.crestron.com found at 64.29.209.51", or all zeros if no valid IP address was found.
