Note: Before connecting to a control system via TCP/IP for the first time, you must first use a serial (RS-232) connection, an USB connection or press the device's setup button as applicable to the device -- and Set the Control Processor's IP Information, domain name, DNS Servers, and hostname. This allows you to configure the IP settings of the control system for subsequent communication over Ethernet.
To add a TCP/IP address
Open the address book you want to edit and click the Add button.
Type a name for the Ethernet device in the Name field.
Type an optional comment in the Comments field. This field is for reference only, and can be used to provide additional information about the device.
Enter the IP information of the device as follows:
General Settings
IP Address/Hostname: Enter the static IP address or hostname of the device. If the device is configured for DHCP, the hostname is the fully-qualified domain name.
Port (if not default): Enter the port number if not default (41795).
Username: Enter the username.
Password: Enter the control system/device password, if applicable.
Network Security: The network security protocol (shown as a drop-down under the Password text box) defaults to Auto Detect. This establishes the most secure connection available based on the device type. Auto Detect is the default and is the recommended option. Note: Click on the drop-down--only if a specific protocol is needed; SSH, SSL/TLS and CTP are available choices. Again, Auto Detect is configured as the default and is strongly recommended.
Instructions
Leave the port field blank when using Auto Detect.
If port is explicitly specified in the port field, use specific protocol (ssh, ctp or ssl) which corresponds to this port.
For more information see:
The Port for Address and .
Use Secondary Console: Some devices support two (2) Ethernet connections to the console on port 41795. Select this option to allow two discrete sessions with the control system. In this mode commands entered in one text console will not be displayed in the second text console. If you do not select this check box, then if you open 2 text consoles to the control system, whatever is displayed in one view will also be displayed in the other.
Advanced Settings - Control Subnet
Hostname: Enter the hostname of the device on the control subnet. Multiple Hostnames can be entered and must be separated with commas (no space). For example: House,GuestHouse,Pool.
Port (if not default): Enter the port number of the device on the control subnet, if not default. Port numbers are added automatically as multiple Hostnames are added (unless the user manually enters port numbers).
Network Security: The network security protocol (shown as a drop-down under the Port text box) defaults to Auto Detect. This establishes the most secure connection available based on the device type. Auto Detect is the default and is the recommended option. Note: Click on the drop-down--only if a specific protocol is needed; SSH, SSL/TLS and CTP are available choices.
