Add, Edit, Delete, oe Apply Geographic Regions

Geographic Regions are used to organize nodes and rooms by physical location and are useful when using the Room Booking Wizard to locate rooms for your meetings. Geographic Regions can be specified at the node level as well as room level. When applied at the node level, hierarchical rules are applied, meaning that all child nodes and rooms will inherit the regional information from the parent node(s) and the inherited information will not be editable.

When a room is moved to a node with regional information, any room level regional information will be overwritten by the node level information. If a room is moved from a node to another node, the room’s regional information will be replaced with the new node’s regional information. If a room is moved to the Unassociated Objects node on the Rooms tab, all regional information will remain and can be edited.

Crestron Fusion® software comes with four default geographic regions: Country, State, City, and Street, but by using the Edit function, the Name field can be changed to whatever you might want to base your room and resource searches on. For example, they could be Room, Control Processor, Symbol, and Join, or State, County, Town, and Street. Geographic Regions are hierarchical in design with each successive region related to its predecessor which is identified by its Parent ID.

Although you can enter geographic information at the room level, it is recommended that it be handled at the node level. By managing at the node level, multiple rooms can be assigned to a region by association with a node. By managing at the room level, each room must be managed individually which can become a cumbersome and time consuming task.

When a room is moved from one node to another node, it will lose any regional information inherited from the original node and inherit the information associated with the new node. If a room is moved to the unassociated node, the regional information it had will remain; however, all fields will be editable. Although regional information should be hierarchical, you can set up the information in whatever manner will suit your organization’s needs.
