About User Modules

User modules are user-created programs that are represented as symbols in Crestron Studio® but they are not included in the Crestron Database.

There are 2 main types of user-created modules. The icon and file extension of a user module differ depending on the type:

• User created SIMPL modules which do not contain any SIMPL+ code

• User created SIMPL+ modules are programs written in SIMPL+ and have an .usp extension. Saved in C:\Users\Public\Documents\Crestron\Tools\Modules

You can create a user module yourself by using either Program Designer (SIMPL module), SIMPL+ Editor (SIMPL+ module), or a combination of the two. Note that a SIMPL module created with Program Designer may also contain a SIMPL+ module. You can also download a module from a website, get it from colleague, or import a module created in SIMPL, or import an entire SIMPL program, containing one ore more user modules.

Once you import or create a new user SIMPL and/or SIMPL+ module, it will be added (if the module is valid for the current control system) to the User folder of the Symbol Library and available to your Crestron Studio® systems.

You can select any user-created module in the Symbol Library and add it to one or all of your projects and you can define its inputs, outputs, and parameters just as you would a Crestron module or logic symbol. User modules that are available to all of your Crestron Studio® systems/projects are stored in a central location and are also known as Central modules.

When importing SIMPL programs which contain user modules you have a choice of storing the modules either with the project or in a central location (Note that all modules embedded within another module MUST be stored with the parent module). Modules stored in a project location are also know as Project modules, they are added to the Project folder of the System Library and can be used only in a particular project.
